Best entertainment ideas for brand activations

The best brand activation entertainment does three jobs: it stops people, it holds them long enough for the message to land, and it gives them something worth posting. Here are the acts that do each job well in Dubai - with examples from activations we have produced.

Flashmobs - still the strongest reveal

A block of performers moving as one pulls a bigger crowd than any single act. That is why flashmobs keep working for reveals and brand moments. The format hides in plain sight, builds confusion, then snaps into choreography - and every phone in the concourse comes out. For Union Fortress 10 we ran flashmobs across multiple malls, with Emirati singers, custom music and custom costumes built around the brand.

Stilt walkers and LED characters - the acts people see first

In a mall or an outdoor site, people are far away and moving. Acts with height and light get registered before any sign gets read. Stilt walkers, oversized costumed characters and LED outfits turn the activation into a landmark people walk toward. Our guide on hiring stilt walkers and costumed characters covers the formats.

Drumline and percussion - sound that announces

Percussion cuts through mall noise without needing a stage. A drumline entrance marks the opening moment, then returns in short bursts through the day. Run high-energy acts in repeated peaks timed to footfall, not stretched thin across trading hours.

Live music - the act that sets the register

A saxophonist over a DJ set, a string duo, a singer with a live loop station: live music is the act that tells guests what kind of brand this is before anyone reads a word. It scales with the space - one musician for a boutique pop-up, a full band for an outdoor launch - and it photographs well without needing a moment staged for it. Place the musician where the queue forms, not on a distant stage, and the waiting time becomes part of the experience instead of a cost.

Interactive stations - the acts that hold people

Stopping a guest is step one. Interactive entertainment keeps them there: live portrait artists, calligraphers writing names, caricature, personalization stations. Anything that makes an object the guest waits for and takes away. The queue is not a failure - it is the mechanic. The object carries the brand home.

Roaming acts - coverage between zones

Roaming entertainment reaches people who never step into the branded footprint, and moves guests between zones of a larger site. At Sharjah Light Festival we ran more than 20 roaming artists across a public site. It is also the easiest format to fit into a mall's rules, since it needs no stage and no rigging.

Aerial and cirque moments - for the single hero shot

Where the venue's ceiling and rigging allow it, an aerial act gives the activation its hero image: one performer above the crowd, the brand visible in the frame, and a picture every attendee wants to take. Cirque-style acts on the ground - contortion, acro duos, hoop - deliver a similar effect where rigging is not an option. These are short-set acts. Two or three scheduled moments a day, announced in advance, will out-perform a continuous background presence.

Bespoke acts - when the act IS the message

The strongest activations use an act built for the product, not booked from a list. For the smart car reveal, performers emerged from the cars themselves, each outfit telling a different lifestyle. That is a bespoke special act: concept, choreography, costumes and rehearsal made for one brand moment. It costs more and takes longer - budget it as production, not talent - but it is the version guests describe afterwards. For launch events, our product launch entertainment guide covers the sequencing.

Match the act to the space

Three practical rules save most activations:

  • Ask the mall for its sound limit in writing before locking creative. Loud acts get cut on site when nobody checked.

  • Check ceiling height and rigging before promising aerial moments.

  • Book performers through an agency that handles the paperwork - in the UAE, paid performances need the right permits and performer approvals, and a cheap day rate is usually the tell that something is missing.

Pick by the number you are measured on

Footfall diverted, dwell time, leads captured - each points to a different act. Flashmobs and drumlines divert. Interactive stations hold and capture. Roaming acts spread reach. Write a performance brief around the number that matters, and build a show flow that puts each set where the footfall is.

We produce brand activation entertainment across malls, launches and public spaces in the UAE - from multi-mall flashmobs to 100+ people dancing as one at Time Out Market Dubai. Send us the venue, the date and the job.
